The Leon Senior Center began in 1982, sharing space with the Leon Volunteer Fire Station (shown above).

The group incorporated in 1982 as Leon Senior Citizens, Inc.; and registered as a 503(c)3 non-profit company, in December of 1989.

The building at 112 S Main (prior to  addition) opened on April 1, 1990. That original building cost $160,000, was built with revenues raised from donations, many bake sales and fund raisers by the community.

The present building, as completed in 2002, (shown on the Home Page) was funded in part through federal grants. The addition included a new professional kitchen, the present dining area, library, exercise room, community tornado shelter, and a back-up generator.
